Ashly Ortega-Torres, Writer

Like many students here at Manchester High School, Ashly Ortega-Torres has had an eventful couple of years, and she has made a huge impact on not only friends but people in the Manchester community as well.

Ashly, a junior this year, is interested in her American Studies class, which has been one of her favorites thus far, where she finds that the debates she does in class allow her to explore different ways to communicate through history.

“When we have discussions in class I am allowed to freely talk about my opinions and my feelings and that is something I really like,” she says.

Not only has she been able to learn for this class but she has been able to take these deep conversations and continue them with the people she loves.

“My aunt is so important to me because she is open minded even when it comes down to the hard topics, she gives me advice when I need it most,” says Torres.

Along with her special relationship with her aunt, she has a strong relationship with her sisters with whom she has built a special bond and has had an important role in their lives.

“My biggest accomplishment is being a big sister to both my sisters. I have a single mom so sometimes it can be rough but my sisters and my mom have been strong. I try my best to be a good sister and help them with everything.”

As Ashly has been a big help to her family she has found that continuing to help others is something important to her.

“I want to work in the medical field and be able to help people who need it.”

Ashly continues to make an impact on her peers in Manchester High School and learn about herself along the way. As she continues to write for The Nest this year she has definitely been an asset to the school.

“Writing for me has been a way I can express myself and I think this class, and writing for the nest has really shown me what kind of writer I can be.”
