Hundreds of students are forced to relocate from their dorms at Northern Arizona University because of a bat infestation that arose in September.
The bats are residing in the Freshman and Sophomore dorms causing underclassmen to give up their newfound freedom which started with a bat that was captured in September of this year that was reported to have rabies.
“About 550 students who lived in Mountain View Hall have been relocated to nearby apartments due to health concerns.” According to KNAU News Talk.
Arizona Northern University press provides us further insight of the help students are receiving.
“Students have also received an Institutional Excuse – an excused absence letter from the Dean of Students and the Provost. The letter affords students the flexibility if they need to miss a class or delay completing or submitting coursework during the next week due to the situation in Mountain View and the relocation process.” The Arizona Northern University press stated in an email to me.
According to the press release the university is also offering mental health services for students who have been residing in the mountain view dorms.
Students have also been moved to apartments near campus while some have decided to commute.
It is not yet known where the bats came from but NAU is working closely with Coconino County Health and Human Services to get this issue resolved quickly.
