The 2024 World series started off with a powerful win by the Los Angeles Dodgers as they went against the New York Yankees winning 6-3. It had been 43 years since the Yankees and the Dodgers went against each other to see who is number one in Major League Baseball.
The Yankees locked in a great win against the Cleveland Guardians during the American League Championship series winning 5-2 boosting themselves up to the World Series after 15 years. Waiting to see who would be their competitor, the Dodgers totaled a satisfying score of 10-5 during the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets securing their spot to compete against the Yankees in the 2024 World Series.
Kicking off with game one, Yankees close to tying up the scores 3-3, Dodgers manage to score three more times during the 10th inning therefore making the final score of game one, 6-3. The Yankees managed to score in the top half by Jazz Chisholm Jr. after stealing two bases and scoring on a groundout, Chisholm Jr. managed to find his way to home plate. However the Dodgers came back with a comeback, sending Freddie Freeman to hit a homer that would set them higher than the Yankees overall.
After a tense game for the Yankees, game two and three wasn’t so different. The Dodgers geared up and won both game 2 and 3 with final scores of 4-2. HIghlights from second baseman, Tommy Edman, hitting a second inning home run to set the score for the Dodgers. As a way to challenge the scores, Yankees right fielder, Juan Soto, hit a third inning homer which set them on the right track to potentially win game two. However, the Dodgers secured the game winning score as Teoscar Hernandez and Freddie Freeman both hit solo homers in the third inning that would make the score 4-2.
Yankees head manager, Aaron Boone talks about this years’ season and how he feels about the losses of game one, two, and three. Boone explains to ESPN, “Even through the lowest of moments… I think I have a healthy perspective… I’ve always envisioned that I’d be able to handle that, going in. I still feel the same way. That’s not to say there haven’t been some hard moments or tough times that you go through — moments where it gets a little lonely. But overall, it’s been incredibly rewarding, and for the most part, I love it.”
Turning things around, the Yankees managed to get a win in game four with the final score of 11-4. Highlights from Dodgers first baseman, Freddie Freeman in the first inning hitting a homer, Yankees second baseman, Gavin Lux hitting a two runner in the second inning and a grand slam from the shortstop, Anthony Volpe in the third inning making the score Yankees 5, Dodgers 2. Final scores ended 11-4 giving the Yankees their first win of the series although straight into game 5 Yankees trial for a winning streak was lost when dodgers beat them 7-6 ultimately winning the 2024 World Series.
Freddie Freeman won MVP of the series with four home runs and 12 runs batted in while the Los Angeles Dodgers make it their eighth win in their franchise history. A fascinating lead on the Yankees, manager Aaron Boone pays the Dodgers and their manager Dave Roberts respect by commending them on their victory. According to MLB News, Boone states “I congratulate the Dodgers and Dave on winning it all.” Being respectful as he can be Aaron Boone is still prideful for his team and believes next season will be the year the Yankees bring home the trophy.
