As election season comes to an end, due to majority votes, the United States chooses Donald J. Trump as the 47th president.
In a whirlwind of campaigns, rallies, and debates, both the electoral and popularity votes created a big win for the Republican party in the 2024 election. As a result of this election, Trump won 312 electoral votes while the democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris only received 226 electoral votes in total.
Swing states such as Pennsylvania and Arizona were won over by Trump which made it easier for him to sweep this election to a close, winning by a landslide. Predictions from Allan Lichtman, an American Historian who is known for inferring the winners of the election and more, stated Harris would win as the first black female president. Knowingly now, the inference was wrong.
States like Texas had 40 electoral votes while 56.3% of people voted red and 42.4% voted blue. Other states like Florida counted 30 electoral votes with 56.1% of people voted red while only 43% voted blue. These big states with populations of millions had big impacts on the goal of 270 electoral votes because of their number of Senates and their Representatives.
According to the Associated Press News, some of the policies during Trump’s campaign include creating the largest mass deportation program in history for illegal immigrants currently in the US, keeping the State federal systems in charge of abortion laws, lowering taxes on bigger corporations and wealthier Americans, implementing 10% to 20% on tariffs, rolling back the Biden administration policy of extending civil rights protections to transgender students also known as Title IX, and also eliminating the federal Department of Education so the State can have more power in the education systems.
Although the next four years can not be predicted, with the majority win for the Republicans in the house, senate, and white house, these policies may take hold sooner rather than later.
