Amanda Serrano, 36 year old Puerto Rican boxer made an appearance as one of the opening fighters for the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight.
As the first ever Puerto Rican boxer to capture a world title in two weight classes, Serrano faces admiration from fans and celebrities that watched her fight against Irish boxer, Katie Taylor. The match became the highest viewed women’s sporting event in history and controversies about the winner .
With Taylor being announced the winner, Serrano’s manager and trainer, Jordan Maldonado, argues in an interview that Taylor was using cheating mechanisms to win. Headbutting her opponents to get a better advantage.While this was stated, articles from the Irish Star state that Taylor may be looking at a loss as she is set to be stripped of her world title after the Serrano fight.
In the post fight interview with Serrano and her trainer, ESPN quotes Amanda stating “[Taylor] kept headbutting me. But we knew that from the very beginning, from the first fight. That’s what they do. She did not only do it at my fight she did it with Chantelle Cameron.” Serrano also stated , “I knew it was going to be a little shady, but listen, I came here, I chose to be great.” As majority of the crowd boos for Taylor, the commenters, Mauro Ranallo, Rosie Perez, and Roy Jones were shocked at the outcome of the fight. Serrano was set to win as her punch stats were overwhelmingly high with 324 punches landed and a higher accuracy of 44% compared to Taylor’s, fans were upset at the judges vote of 95 Taylor and 94 Serrano.
However, Serrano claimed she would be up for a round three rematch although with a few rules, No Headbutting.
