Winds are rising and are taking everything in its path. Santa Ana’s dry winds continue to get more powerful, reaching highs up to 72 miles per hour in mountain areas and up to 60 in valley and coastal locations.
These life threatening fires have taken at least 24 lives and destroyed more than 12.000 buildings. The fire in Palisades was so severe that schools have been cancelled with the blaze growing more than 23,000 acres since Sunday night.
Planes have been flying over houses that are still standing, spraying fire resistant powder over the houses. The fire has spread to Pasadena,many animals getting caught in its crossfire.
Pasadena Humane touch on their role during these challenging times.
“Working with shelters across the state who have offered to take in the animals that were already in our care so that we can focus on providing resources to the displaced animals.”
Evacuation orders are in effect for 92,000 residents with 89,000 in evacuation warning zones. Only 14%of the 23,000 acres burned in the Palisades fire was contained, in addition the Eaton fire which has burned through more than 14,110 acres and destroyed over 7,000 structures. Only one third of the fires have been contained. Fire officials recently stated winds approached 100 miles per hour, causing many to be displaced.
Manchester High School student, Onyx Tinti shares his opinion on this pressing topic.
“For the victims I would say, I feel a lot of sympathy for them because L.A is getting cooked, but I am little concerned because L.A is such a condensed area for art, celebrities, films, and like culture just in general. Having that get so destroyed I think is going to have a big impact in how people move forward with film and art.”
Many investigators have concluded that the number of wildfires have increased since the 1980s, and will continue to do so because of Human interference. The fires are proof humans are damaging the earth. Going forward, society should listen to the small cries the planet is letting out.
